At Grieco, Moore and Centonzio Attorneys, we are as concerned about our own safety, and the safety of our family and friends, as you are.
The biggest danger we face today is the use of smartphones while driving. This foolish behavior is now the cause of over 3,000 deaths each day, and nearly 400,000 injuries.
Distracted driving now accounts for approximately 25% of ALL motor vehicle crashes and fatalities. American drivers are now driving more miles than ever before, and the roadways are becoming more congested with each passing year.
This epidemic shows no signs of slowing, as a new generation of drivers has grown up with smartphones. That fact, combined with inexperience, is contributing to a frightening future on our roadways. 16-19 year olds are three times more likely to be involved in a fatal car crash than any other age group, and auto accidents are the number one killer of teens in the United States.
Distracted driving has now been termed the new “drunk driving” and is actually MORE dangerous in terms of injuries and deaths statistically. And since there are few ways to “test” for distracted driving (with the exception of telephone call or text logs that show the phone was being used at the time of the accident) the total number of accidents caused by distracted driving may be seriously under reported.
We must all be responsible for our own behavior behind the wheel of our vehicles. Over 80% of drivers admit to this kind of blatantly dangerous behavior while driving. We implore you to refrain from any form of distracted driving, and to share your concerns with your family and friends.
At Grieco, Moore and Centonzio, we are troubled by this new reality but must also be standing ready to represent our clients in the event they are injured by this type of gross negligence by others.
